5 Things To Know Before Buying Water Level Controller
We excessively use water in our homes, industries, agricultural lands, offices etc. This water is stored in a tank installed in our buildings. These tanks need to be refilled regularly. Similarly, there are many more systems like the swimming pools, water pumps etc. that too store water in great capacity and require refilling. The source of water for these is either the fresh water or groundwater. A motor is installed that pulls the water from the ground and stores it. It is a manual process, where one needs to constantly check on the level of water. When the water level drops, we switch on the motor and regulate the refill process and once the tank is full, we switch it off. The process is carried out on an almost daily basis or as per the usage and the capacity of the tank.
To make it convenient, we have Water Level Controllers available in the market. These controllers emit human supervision by automating the entire process. It is a small device that monitors the water level available and regulates the motor accordingly. When the water level drops, it automatically switches on the motor and once, the water has reached the required level, it automatically turns off the motor. Hence, saving time, effort and avoiding any water wastage.
Why Water Level Controllers are Important?
- Reduces Effort and Saves Time: By automating the entire process, it emits the need for constant human supervision, allowing them freedom.
- Saves Motor from any Damage: The absence of adequate water level can overheat the motor and cause permanent damage to it. Water Level Controller regulates the motor as per the availability of sourced water. In absence of adequate water level, it automatically turns it off and saves it from any damage.
- Reduces Wastage: If the motor isn’t turned off on time, the tank might overflow causing wastage of water. The Water Level Controller monitors the level of water in the tank and when it reaches the required level, it automatically turns off the motor, hence, avoiding the overflow and any wastage of water.
- 2-Way Sensing adding to the Efficiency of the System: Water Level Controllers integrate a 2-way sensing system that senses the water at the top and the bottom of the tank or the water structure. This way we can keep a constant check on both when the water is overfilled and when it is less filled.
5 Things to Know Before Buying a Water Level Controller:
There are a variety of Water Level Controllers available in the market. It is important to ensure you purchase the right product. A wrong choice can damage your motor and cause further issues. The following points are necessary to consider while making the purchase.
- Quality of Sourced Water
It is very important to understand the quality of the water in region as it directly affects the sensors being put to use. Before choosing the appropriate system, run a clarity test of the available water. Check if it is clear, or contains any particles like dust, mud, etc. The presence of any foreign particle can affect the efficiency of the motor and cause damage to it. Secondly, also check for the taste of the water. If it tastes too salty, that might again cause an issue. It is likely to possess minerals that get attached to the rods and affect the efficiency of the sensors.
- Motor Type being put to Use
It is important to check the motor or pump for its power consumption. Old motors usually consume more power as compared to the new ones. If its power consumption doesn’t match the prescribed load intake of the Water Level Controller, that might disrupt the functioning to the controller. Also, other factors like the pipe arrangement, thickness of the pipes, distance between the tank and the water source, type of motor put to use (submersible or non-submersible) etc. too play an important role in defining the power consumption by the motor. Hence, they also need to be considered well before choosing the appropriate Water Level Controller.
- Type of Water Level Controller
Another important factor to keep in consideration is if the Water Level Controller includes the Dry Run Protection feature. Often, the source water lacks adequate amounts of water. If a motor keeps running in such a situation, it will overheat and eventually break down. To avoid such situations, there is a feature called ‘Dry Run Protection’. It enables the controller to sense the lack of water and automatically turn off the motor. It is advised to buy a controller that has this feature. It might cost a bit more but is definitely worth the investment.
- Switches and Connectors
In addition to the above points, it is important to ensure the quality of the switches and connectors being used. They play a vital role in defining the age of the Water Level Controller. It is advised to test the manual on/off switch before making the purchase. Also, don’t forget to read through the ampere ratings.
- Understand the Sensors being put to Use
Lastly, make sure the Water Level Controller is devised with a Universal Sensor Supporter. That reduces the hustle. But otherwise, there are two types of sensors available – (a) Contact Type Sensor, and (b) Non-Contact Type Sensor. Each has their respective pros and cons. Selecting the appropriate sensor system is purely based on your usage and water quality.
Each of the above-mentioned points plays a vital role in defining the efficiency and life span of your Water Controller System. Therefore, advised to keep them in consideration while making the purchase.
